Can Roundup Cause Lymphoma? / Alabama Roundup Attorneys

For years, Roundup has been the number one herbicide in the world and has been used on everything to farms, lawns, gardens, and golf courses. The primary chemical component of Roundup, called Glyphosate, works by targeting specific plant enzymes that are essential to growth. While it was intended to simply kill weeds and keep things green, Glyphosate, the chemical component used in Roundup, has also been linked to an increased risk of developing Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (also known as “NHL”) and other forms of cancer.

2015 study from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a division of the World Health Organization, classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans.” In other words, the study found that that people exposed to Roundup and other herbicides containing Glyphosate had a higher risk of developing Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma than people who were not exposed to Glyphosate. The study was the result of a joint effort of 17 experts from 11 different countries.

In the wake of the World Health Organization’s study, over 900 people across the United States have filed lawsuits against Monsanto, the manufacturer of Roundup, for failing to warn or inform the public of the risk posed by its product. Most recently, on August 10, 2018, a jury in San Francisco, California, awarded a school groundskeeper $289 million dollars after he contracted Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after he had been regularly exposed to Roundup while on the job.
